Here are some things you should know before finding a "cheap"
or inexpensive web host.
You should pay very careful attention to what you get versus what
you pay for. Inexpensive web hosting usually comes with a high cost:
 Unlimited space. Many hosting companies
may advertise "Unlimited" space or transfer but this is
usually just a gimmick. Almost all hosts that have "unlimited"
plans specify that no site can use an "excessive" amount
of resources. If you use too much disk space, bandwidth, or CPU time,
these "unlimited" hosts will ask you to upgrade or leave.
We recommend against using "unlimited" hosts so you know
exactly what you're getting.
Setup fees. A few hosts hide the fact
that there is a setup fee until you get to
the fine print.
Limits on file size. Some hosts limit
maximum sizes of files (not to the total space used for all files,
but the maximum size of a single file). This can prevent customers
from putting files for download or having high-resolution graphics
or photos.
Bad uptime guarantees. These guarantees
usually have multiple qualifications, such as making only unannounced
uptime count, often making them useless.
Very high extra space and additional transfer costs.
It is normal for extra space and transfer to cost more than they do
for the initial account, but these additional costs can often be way
too high.
No emergency phone number and no support on weekends.
Many cheapest hosts only have email or chat support.
Limit on monthly site hits. Some hosts do that in
addition to transfer limits.
You can't expect to get the greatest and fastest support for every
little problem you have by paying less than $25/month. Such a business
would fail soon because qualified support personnel costs money.
Cheap hosts oversell space and bandwidth, counting on the fact that
most people
won't
use them fully. When the service underestimates
the amount of users, your
site slows
to a crawl.
Cheap hosts often don't fully control their servers - they might have
a dedicated server with another company to make their costs lowest
possible, so they are sometimes forced to rely on others to perform
some physical tasks like replacing some hardware on the server. When
this happens, your site can be down for days at a time.
